Piecing the puzzle

There are many parts to the health and wellness puzzle. We are intricate and marvelous human beings made up of spirit, soul and body. For everything to work optimally and for me to regain my health and fitness I had to find balance and get everything working together for my good. Biologically the body is continually trying to balance itself. It’s called homeostasis and is defined like this:
Homeostasis can be defined as a property of an organism or system that helps it maintain its parameters within a normal range of values. It is key to life, and failures in homeostasis can lead to diseases.
I had to start somewhere, anywhere, anyhow to get my life back and in balance.   Living with constant pain and with no umfph, told me something wasn’t working like it should. How you feel and how much energy you have is a natural indicator to something being right or not being quite right. You don’t need a doctor to tell you that.
So first things first: Sugar and all its hidden forms had to GO! I’ve long known that sugar and I have a love/hate relationship. I love it but it hates me!   I could go from high to low at the speed of digesting one chocolate profiterole. I’ve woken up so many times with a thick head and the regret of what I ate yesterday. Sugar induced stupors made me morph into a sloth and oaf – a sloath? Sugar makes me whine enough to make my teeth ache…and fall foul of the dentists drill. It also makes me fat. Its just poison in every form and I had to quit. I’m not 100 percent there yet, but oh, how far I’ve come. I’ll get there from here. Yes I will, I know I can, yes I can…..
If you need help to quit sugar there are plenty of programmes out there.
Try I quit sugar with Sarah Wilson.  Her website is fascinating and fun.
Food is a huge… no, make that gigantic contributor to well being. For everyone. We are what we eat is too true, and if you don’t feel that yet…mark my words, one day you will. Food is a big, life oxymoron. We have to eat to stay alive – eat the right things and you’ll have the colour and energy of a mariachi band. Eat the wrong things and life becomes a bowl of toenails. Redundant and difficult to clip because your belly gets in the way. But eat you must, the conundrum comes with finding what’s right for YOU.
For the RA and auto-immune sufferer – food is a matter of life and death. All that glittered in the health food stores wasn’t gold for me. I had to walk the path of pick and choose, trial and error and journaling everything I ate, columned with how it make me feel. Eg. Hand full of nuts – feels like my throat is closing.   Nuts are a good source of nutrition, just not for me. Sadly. And in every feel entry – THE bloat. I could drink a glass of water and have a bloated belly in less than the time it took to put the glass down.
In following posts I’ll give a little more depth to my food finds as well as the other puzzle pieces that I’ve slowly put together to give me the big picture.   Medication, exercise, stress, rest, attitude, resolving negative thoughts and others.
This is a thousand piece puzzle. But if you find and put every piece in its place, the picture will be pretty.  Real pretty.
I promise.
